Hundreds turn out for Columbia walk against domestic violence

Permeco Myers gazed at the hundreds of faces at Finlay Park on Saturday morning knowing that many staring back were walking the same dark road she once traveled.
For longer than anyone should, the state health department worker endured an abusive domestic relationship at the hands of someone who considered her “his property” and ultimately held her hostage for more than 20 hours while stabbing her repeatedly.

How can those who often do not show up to vote be convinced to participate this time? What is the likelihood of unseating incumbents?

On the far left is Jim Felder from the Voter Education Project who also was the first among three African Americans who served in the South Carolina legislator in the 1970's. We were honored to have him in attendance.
We were honored to be a sponsor of Columbia's radio station WFMV's Family Fest. The gospel music was wonderful and we met many kind people.
April's "Family Forum Live!"
April's "Family Forum Live!" topic was: MENTAL HEALTH-EVERY FAMILY'S CHALLENGE. Our awesome panel included: Camille Carpenter with 25 years experience as a mental health counselor; Cissy Weaver a survivor of mental illness and works with NAMI; Attorney James Shadd III; and radio personality PA Bennett who was the moderator. We were also honored to have Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott on the panel as well.
We proudly sponsor The Lazarus House's basketball team, The Sumter Crusaders. We enjoy attending their practice sessions as well as the games. The young men are from14-17 years old.
Central Carolina Community Foundation had an interesting discussion on the attitudes of giving back to the community and included the uniqueness of each generation.
